IPL 2026: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stuns again with 97 in eliminator

Youngster sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played his last extraordinary innings by scoring 97 off just 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League qualifying match.
The 15-year-old hit 12 sixes, including three in a row off Australia captain Pat Cummins, before being dismissed in the eighth over.
After hitting boundaries from seven consecutive balls, he struck a shot to break Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest IPL century but was caught at third over while attempting a catch.
Sooryavanshi looked dejected in the middle as he reached 50 in 16 balls but was congratulated by his opponents and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
The Rajasthan Royals team were 125-1 after eight overs and at the other end, opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, an India international in different formats, made 25 off 20 balls.
“What an innings. What a player,” said India legend Sunil Gavaskar.
“This is an inning to remember. An inning to be savored.”
Sooryavanshi’s knock also took him to the top of this year’s IPL top scorers list.
His seventh six, which came only in the fourth over, broke the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season; this record was previously held by former West Indies international Gayle with 59.
