Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi claimed on Sunday: “Face the NationPresident Donald Trump said he launched attacks against Iran “because it’s fun,” accusing the United States of starting what he called an “illegal war” in an interview with CBS host Margaret Brennan.

“We are ready to defend ourselves no matter how long it takes,” Aragchi said. “There are people being killed just because President Trump wants to have fun… they’re sinking ships and targeting different places because it’s fun.”

The comments come as the war between the United States and Iran continues to escalate and the Trump administration has signaled that the conflict could continue for longer than initially expected.

Trump told Fox News Radio that he will eventually know when the conflict is nearing its end, saying he will recognize that moment “when I feel it in my bones.”

The White House did not respond to comment from Fox News Digital.

During the CBS interview, Brennan pressed the secretary of state about Iran’s drone and missile attacks in the Gulf region and their impact on neighboring countries that host U.S. military forces.

Aragchi defended Iran’s actions, claiming that Tehran was only targeting American military assets hosting US military forces.

“We are only targeting American assets, American facilities and American military bases,” Aragchi said. “They are using their own territory to attack us… They are using UAE territory to attack us.”

Brennan challenged him, noting reports that Iranian drones and missiles were striking civilian areas in neighboring countries. Aragchi denied that civilians were targeted.

The foreign minister also touched on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply passes. Aragchi said Iran had not officially closed the strait but acknowledged that some ships had avoided the route due to security concerns arising from the conflict.

He also discussed Iran’s nuclear program, citing about 440 kilograms of enriched uranium previously documented by international inspectors. He said the material was now buried under rubble following attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.

“They are under rubble,” Aragchi said. “Of course, you know there’s a possibility of getting them back, but it’s in the agency’s custody.”
