From Tom Kenny, Regina Hall to Mark Hamill; Meet voices behind iconic characters

SpongeBob SquarePants and his best friend Patrick Star return for an all-new adventure in ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’, which will be released in India on January 1, 2026. As the duo leaves Bikini Bottom for the first time and heads towards the mysterious underworld, they also encounter pirates. Actors Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke return as SpongeBob and Patrick, respectively, while Mark Hamill and Regina Hall join the cast. Ahead of the film’s release, here’s a quick guide to who voices who.

SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny)

Tom Kenny is the iconic voice behind SpongeBob SquarePants, a role he’s played since the series first premiered in 1999. His energetic, high-pitched voice perfectly captures SpongeBob’s eternal optimism, innocence, and determination. In this story, SpongeBob gets hurt when others see him as “not brave,” which gives Kenny the chance to show more emotional depth while keeping SpongeBob funny and likable. Kenny is particularly well-suited for this role due to his incredible vocal range and comedic timing.

Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown)

Clancy Brown voices Mr. Krabs, the money-loving owner of the Krusty Krab. In the film, Mr. Krabs’ exaggerated tales of his past as a brave pirate push SpongeBob to prove himself. Brown’s deep, commanding voice gives Mr. Krabs authority, humor and just the right amount of greed.

Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke)

Bill Fagerbakke plays Patrick Star, SpongeBob’s goofy but fiercely loyal best friend. Patrick may not always understand what’s going on, but his heart is always in the right place, and Fagerbakke’s slow, clueless delivery makes Patrick extremely funny.

Thorn (Regina Hall)

Regina Hall voices Barb, a new character who serves as the Flying Dutchman’s assistant. Barb is smart, sarcastic, and often annoyed at having to keep the ghost pirate’s chaotic life in order. Hall’s sharp comedic delivery makes Barb stand out as both funny and relatable. Regina’s comedy experience makes her a perfect match for Barb, bringing personality, attitude, and catchy humor to the character.

The Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill)

Mark Hamill voices the Flying Dutchman, the legendary ghost pirate who guides SpongeBob through the Underworld. Hamill’s voice carries both menace and humor; Instead of scaring the Dutchman, he makes it scary but fun.

Ticket Attendant (Ice Spice)

Rapper Ice Spice makes his animated film debut as the Ticket Taker, a high school fish. Even though the role is small, his voice and personality make the character unforgettable. He also adds a modern energy to the soundtrack by performing the film’s hit song ‘Big Guy’.
