Islip: Woman under police watch in hospital after nine-year-old girl dies in Oxfordshire village

The woman, whose life is in danger after the death of a nine-year-old girl and the injuries of two other children, is under police guard in the hospital.
Police were called to a property in Islip Middle Street at 11.15am on Tuesday following reports that three children had been attacked.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said the nine-year-old girl from the Oxfordshire village was pronounced dead at the scene, while a boy and a girl were taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.
He said: “A post-mortem examination was carried out but the cause of death could not be determined pending further investigation.
“The girl’s family is being supported by specially trained family liaison officers and has asked for privacy at this difficult time.”
Detective Inspector Amy Fox said the 49-year-old woman remained in hospital and no one else was wanted in connection with the incident.
He said: “First and foremost we offer our deepest condolences to the boy’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy and we are doing everything we can to support those affected.
“A 49-year-old woman from Oxfordshire was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently under police bed guard.
“We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“The incident at the property is now over but officers will continue to be in the area throughout the weekend and we would encourage anyone with concerns or information to speak to them.
“This remains an extremely sensitive and complex investigation. I would like to sincerely thank the community for their understanding and patience as we work to uncover the full circumstances.”
