Israel and Lebanon agree to 10-day ceasefire, Trump says

President Donald Trump said Thursday that the leaders of Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire after officials from the two countries met in Washington.

One to followTrump added that he would invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House “for the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983, a very long time ago.”

“Both sides want to see PEACE and I believe it will happen quickly!” Trump wrote.

The developments raise hopes that an agreement will be reached that will end the Middle East war that the US and Israel launched against Iran on February 28.

Israel’s heavy military strikes on Lebanon last week have led to Iranian accusations that a fragile two-week ceasefire has already been violated. Despite US-Iran peace talks ending with no deal over the weekend, Trump said this week that the war was “very close to being over” and that the White House was projecting optimism about the “possibility of a deal.”

Trump wrote in his ceasefire post on Thursday that he had completed “excellent talks” with Netanyahu and Aoun.

Trump wrote that the two leaders reached an agreement “to ensure PEACE between their countries.”

Trump added that Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chief of Staff Dan Caine “will work with Israel and Lebanon to achieve a lasting PEACE.”
