Jagan Demands TET Exemption For Teachers Recruited In 2011

Vijayawada: Former chief minister and YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said it was unfair to ask teachers with 20-25 years of experience in teaching to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test, which involves multiple subjects and the minimum qualifying score is 60 per cent.

The former CM took up X on Wednesday and pointed out that more than one lakh teachers working in schools since 2011 were facing serious challenges as they were asked to clear the TET. He underlined that these teachers were hired only after passing the competitive exams held in those days when TET did not exist.

Jagan Mohan Reddy asked how the state government could justify imposing a qualification with retrospective effect.

Although the Right to Education Act has made TET compulsory from 2011, the demand from teachers to grant them exemption from it is justified as they have already proven their abilities by passing competitive exams held at the time of their recruitment, he argued. They have also been providing education to students since then.

The former prime minister addressed the allegations of the teachers concerned that compulsory TET hindered their promotions and also created uncertainty about their job security.

Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded that the state government put pressure on the central government to exempt all teachers appointed in 2011 from TET and provide them with long overdue benefits.
