John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s former national adviser, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Maryland on Thursday.

Bolton becomes the third high-profile Trump foe to face criminal charges in recent weeks after being criticized by the President.

Grand juries in Virginia have separately indicted former FBI Director James Comey on charges related to his alleged lie to Congress and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is accused of bank fraud related to a mortgage on a home she owns in Virginia.

They denied any wrongdoing in these cases.

FBI agents raided Bolton’s Washington, D.C., Maryland home and office on August 22

The raids were part of a “national security investigation seeking classified records,” a person familiar with the matter told NBC News at the time.

CNBC requested comment from Bolton’s attorney, Abbe Lowell.
