Jose Mourinho: Portuguese signs three-year deal to become Real Madrid manager
While Real completed the 2025-26 season without a trophy, their rivals Barcelona secured the La Liga championship by winning El Clasico 2-0.
Los Blancos’ Champions League series also ended with a 6-4 aggregate defeat by German champion Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
After leaving Real in 2013, Mourinho returned to England for a second time at Chelsea, winning the third of his three Premier League titles and the EFL Cup in the 2014–15 season.
Mourinho, who left the Blues by mutual agreement in 2015, signed a three-year contract with Manchester United in 2016.
He won the Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield in his first season at Old Trafford but was sacked in December 2018 following poor results.
Before taking over at Benfica, Mourinho also worked at Tottenham, Serie A team Roma, with whom he won the Europa Conference League in 2022, and Turkish club Fenerbahce.
