JPMorgan Chase executive fined after Knicks parade trash can stunt

The viral Knicks championship spectacle that resulted in a JPMorgan Chase executive losing his job resulted in city fines after New York City cleaners recovered the Knicks-themed trash can he was accused of taking from a Manhattan street.

According to the New York City Department of Sanitation, Angie Báez returned the souvenir wastebasket Wednesday morning, almost a week after video showed her throwing trash from the container onto the sidewalk during the New York Knicks’ championship celebration.

The Department of Sanitation told Fox News Digital that Sanitation Police issued two summonses to Báez in connection with the incident: a $75 fine for littering and a $100 fine for obstructing Department of Sanitation operations.

“These fines are the maximum allowed by law for first offences,” a ministry spokesman said.

Video of the incident spread widely on social media following the June 18 parade, in which hundreds of thousands of fans came to Lower Manhattan to celebrate the Knicks’ first NBA championship in more than five decades.

Báez was later identified New York Post He served as a JPMorgan Chase executive, whose LinkedIn profile lists him as Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement for Card and Connected Commerce. Her previous experience included diversity, equity and inclusion leadership roles, including at The Infatuation, which was acquired by Chase in 2021.

Following the incident, JPMorgan Chase confirmed that Báez was no longer employed by the company.

Fox News Digital contacted JPMorgan Chase on Wednesday for additional comment regarding his departure.

“This employee is no longer with the company,” a spokesperson said, reiterating the company’s previous statement.

The company declined to provide additional details.

Despite public interest in the incident, the New York Police Department stated that there were no complaint reports on file.

“There is no complaint report on file containing the information provided in your query,” an NYPD spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The Ministry of Sanitation did not provide an estimate of the cleanup costs associated with basket-tossed trash, but noted that the amount was insignificant compared to the overall cleanup efforts following the parade.

“We do not have a cost estimate, but keep in mind that the trash you see in the video is a very small amount compared to the 75,260 pounds of confetti and trash we collected Thursday and Friday,” the department said.

The agency also appeared to have some fun with the situation in a social media post announcing the cart’s return.

“There are 23,000 wastebaskets on streets across the city, and you never know where one of them will show up,” the department said, adding that fans interested in a Knicks-themed basket buy smaller versions online.
