Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear repeats call on McConnell to address health status

Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear stepped up his pressure campaign against Sen. Mitch McConnell on Saturday, demanding the longtime Republican senator from the Bluegrass State disclose his undisclosed medical condition as questions mount about the 84-year-old’s ability to serve.
In a post on
Beshear concluded his post by calling on McConnell to “end the wild speculation” and “tell us what’s going on.”

The governor’s public comments follow a formal letter he sent to McConnell on Wednesday requesting a full health update on behalf of constituents who are “increasingly concerned” about the senator’s health and his “ability to serve in the United States Senate.”
Beshear argued that public officials have a commitment to representing voters “with clear communication about the person’s ability to serve.”

McConnell had not been in the Senate for three weeks and was first hospitalized in early June for an undisclosed condition.
His office declined to release specific details or a timeline of his return, but leaked emergency audio from a June 14 call revealed that he was apparently found unconscious in his home and may have suffered a heart attack.
McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing after he was hospitalized, and her office claimed McConnell’s condition “does not warrant immediate return to the United States.”

Both Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso said they spoke at length with McConnell about Senate business, recent Supreme Court decisions and the ongoing Graham Platner campaign scandal.

But when asked Wednesday about McConnell’s condition on Air Force One, President Donald Trump said, “I have no idea how he’s doing.”
The White House and McConnell’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
