King Charles just proved nobody’s missing Harry and Meghan | Royal | News

King Charles was in absolute spirits during his four-day State Visit to the United States – and I felt immensely proud and happy to have such a talented and loyal chief diplomat representing our country who everyone listened to and wanted to be photographed with. The monarch took the other side of the Atlantic by storm with her speech to Congress (my favorite quote was “just the other day” in the UK 250 years ago) and her after-dinner speech at the White House, cracking jokes and also reminding elected representatives and Donald Trump of the rich history between our two nations.
It demonstrated exactly what one of the primary purposes of the monarchy is: superior diplomacy. The monarch’s trip has made Harry and Meghan’s semi-royal tour of Australia look pathetic by comparison. Charles mentioned Prince William of Wales in his after-dinner speech, joking about how Britain’s royal legacy remains etched in American geography, suggesting that the country’s maps were like “our Christmas card list through the ages.”
“The cities of North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Charleston — my favorite, obviously — Georgetown — and Georgia for that matter — Annapolis, Prince William County and Williamsburg,” King said.
These words were not only funny, but also showed that the Firm did not need Charles’ second son.
Harry has become insignificant and essentially irrelevant on the world stage.
William is the King’s heir and Prince George is next in line; Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also have roles to play in the future.
But Harry and Meghan still need the Royal Family. Their Australian tour appeared primarily for commercial gain.
It is objectively very sad to see a rift between a father and son in any family.
But the royal ranks are different in that they are brightly lit on the national stage and everyone gossips when things don’t go well between members of Britain’s most prominent clan.
Diana’s death shook the world, and reasonable people hoped that Charles and his sons would live as stable and happy a life as possible in the wake of this tragedy.
Instead, Harry found himself in California, firing artillery at Buckingham Palace and the family he was born into (who would be unknown and far less wealthy without them).
Charles was probably advised not to mention Harry during his trip, as god knows what kind of media frenzy that would trigger.
This trip was not about airing the monarchy’s dirty laundry, but about showing the best of what it can achieve in the 21st century.
