Tiger Woods had pills in his pocket when he was arrested, cops claim… as golf legend reveals what led to him rolling his SUV in high-speed crash

Tiger Woods had two loose opioid pills in his pocket when he was arrested for drunk driving in Florida on Friday.

An arrest affidavit seen by the Daily Mail revealed the 50-year-old golf icon told officers he was ‘looking at this mobile phone and changing the radio station’ before his tumble on Jupiter Island.

When officers searched Woods, they found two white pills in his left pants pocket. They are marked ‘M367’, which is hydrocodone and is used to treat severe or chronic pain. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Opioids are ‘addictive’.

Woods, who has struggled with painkiller addiction in the past, was ‘sweating profusely’ after the incident and a police officer noticed his movement was ‘lethargic and slow’. It is also said that he struggled with hiccups throughout his investigations.

The 15-time major winner’s eyes were also said to be ‘bloodshot and glassy’ and his pupils were ‘extremely dilated’. When asked if he was currently taking any prescription medications, Woods replied, “I’m taking a few.”

This comes after the Daily Mail first reported that Woods’ refusal to provide a urine sample at the scene was likely due to the fact that he had taken a heavy dose of prescription opioids due to his repeated injuries.

Our insider agrees that it wasn’t about ‘illegal drugs’ for the golf icon, who only returned to the sport last week at the TGL finals after months of injury rehab.

‘I know the guy, that’s not what he does,’ the source said. ‘He’s been taking tons of painkillers for years.’

The golf legend was arrested when he tried to overtake a truck and trailer at high speed, crashing the truck and flipping his own SUV on its side.

Woods, who has been involved in other accidents over the years, is accused of drunk driving, property damage and refusing to submit to a legal inspection.

The affidavit states Woods ‘limped and stumbled’ during the field sobriety test. After completing a series of practices, it became clear that Woods could not drive his car.

He was traveling at “high speeds” on a residential road and showed “signs of impairment” after the crash, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said, adding that investigators believe he was taking some type of medication or drugs.

He described Woods as lethargic and said he accepted a breathalyzer test, which showed no signs of alcohol, but refused a urine test and was arrested.

Budensiek said Woods tried to pass the pressure cleaning truck while driving on a two-lane road with a speed limit of 30 miles per hour. He said authorities could not determine how fast Woods was going.

Budensiek said the Land Rover swerved to avoid a collision as it passed the truck, but hit the rear end of the truck’s trailer. Woods’ car then moved to the driver’s side and he crawled out.

Woods has been dating Vanessa Trump for over a year; Their relationship was first reported by the Daily Mail in March 2025, after they started seeing each other around Thanksgiving 2024.

The sheriff said Woods was ‘cooperative but did not attempt to incriminate himself.’

He said Woods had the right to refuse a urine test and that authorities “will never be able to obtain definitive conclusions regarding his impairment.”

This was the fourth time Woods was involved in a car crash; most recently in February 2021, when his SUV went off a beach road in Los Angeles at a high rate of speed, causing multiple leg and ankle injuries.

Woods later said doctors were considering amputation. He had also previously suffered multiple injuries to his left knee and back throughout his golf career.

This was the second time Woods was arrested for drunk driving, not under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities said he had taken a bad mix of painkillers when they found him asleep at the wheel of his car in 2017, with the engine still running and the driver’s side damaged. Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

President Donald Trump, whose former daughter-in-law Vanessa was with Woods, was asked about the golfer when he touched down in Miami for an investment summit on Friday afternoon.

‘I feel very bad. “He’s having some difficulties,” Trump said. ‘My very close friend. He’s an amazing person. He’s a great guy. But there is some difficulty.”

The Daily Mail revealed on Saturday that Vanessa was waiting for the golf legend when he returned home from the Martin County Public Safety Complex.

“He’s not happy at all,” a source told the Daily Mail. ‘To be honest, he was both disappointed and a little angry.

‘This is a definite red flag and she told him she would figure it out and he would need it too. He needs to get things under control or he won’t stick around.’

The pair have been dating since last March and the relationship was first revealed by the Daily Mail, but this was the first time she was thrust into the spotlight due to one of her many scandals.

Following Woods’ latest crash, a source said: People He said Elin Nordegren, who has been married to the golf legend for six years and shares children Charlie and Sam, asked him to prioritize her ‘health’.

The source told the press: ‘The kids are close with Tiger, so of course Elin cares too. He wants her to be okay. Both kids are amazing and love spending time with their dad.

‘Elin is worried about getting into another car accident and getting arrested,’ they added.

‘Recovery after the accident [in 2021] It was brutal in California. [Elin] He just wants her to make the best choices for him. “This is about her health and being around the kids,” the source continued.

Before his latest arrest, Woods was reportedly banned by the Secret Service from driving the US president’s grandchildren.

Accordingly PEOPLEWoods doesn’t want to hire his own private chauffeur because ‘he doesn’t want anyone to keep an eye on him or know what he’s doing.’

A source also said he was adamant ‘he thought it was good to drive’.

‘He’s not a social butterfly and prefers hanging out at home with his kids, playing ball or video games,’ the source added. ‘He underestimates public scrutiny.’
