KSRTC Denies Widespread Service Cancellations

Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC termed as “baseless” reports circulating on social media alleging widespread cancellation of bus services and disruption of operations in the state. In a statement issued late on Monday, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said its services were operating normally and 4,371 schedules were operated during the day.

It was stated that this figure was 16 more than the 4,355 programs carried out on the relevant day of the previous week.

The state-run company also said on Monday that 376 spare buses have been kept ready at various units for deployment when required, maintaining that there was no operational crisis or large-scale cancellation of services.

Urging the public not to mislead with false information, KSRTC urged passengers to rely only on official information regarding its operations.

State Transport Minister CP John also denied reports of service cancellations on Monday.

The minister had also warned of strict action, including suspension or dismissal, against KSRTC conductors who are found to be deliberately distributing “zero tickets” from women to men under the state’s Priyadarshini free bus travel scheme.

Stating that inspections have been intensified to detect such irregularities, he claimed that no tolerance will be shown regardless of an employee’s union membership.
