KTR, Harish Slam Revanth, Say Law and Order Failing in State

Hyderabad: BRS on Friday said the law and order situation in the state was rapidly deteriorating and the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau showed how the Congress government had failed to control crime rates. BRS working president KT Rama Rao and BRS legislative assembly party deputy leader T. Harish Rao, in their separate statements, said the situation is a direct reflection of the failures of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also holds the home portfolio.
Rama Rao said the Congress government “should stop abusing the police power against the Opposition and instead focus on strengthening the police and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.” He said there had been a rise in “horrific crimes” and the latest was the murder of the wife of a retired DG-rank IPS officer in the high-security enclave of Prashasannagar.
“The result of the government directing its entire police machinery to file cases against BRS leaders and social media activists and harassing them is the collapse of law and order that we are witnessing,” Rama Rao said.
Harish Rao said the NCRB 2024 report revealed that Telangana is one of the most crime-affected states. “The Congress government is focusing on publicity, political vendetta and media management rather than governance and public safety,” he said.
According to NCRB data, total cognizable offenses increased from 1,83,644 in 2023 to 2,17,976 in 2024. The state’s crime rate stood at 568.9 cases per lakh population, significantly higher than the national average of 418.9. Atrocities against SC/ST communities have also increased significantly, he said.
Harish Rao demanded immediate remedial measures, strengthening of intelligence systems, faster investigation of cyber crimes and missing persons cases, stronger protection for women and children and accountability from the Congress government on the law and order situation.
