Raja’s tourist destination in Madikeri will be closed to the public from July 9 to 12 due to traffic disruptions in the town following a landslide near the KSRTC bus stand.
Due to landslides triggered following widespread rains and strong winds in Kodagu district for the last few days, authorities have diverted all vehicles coming out of private and KSRTC bus stands to pass through Raja’s seat road.
Traffic congestion has become a recurring problem as traffic volume on this road has increased significantly and locals and tourists park their vehicles near Raja’s Seat. In a statement made by the Deputy Commissioner’s office, it was stated that heavy crowds in the area frequently cause disruptions in the smooth flow of traffic.
There is likely to be a further increase in vehicular traffic and parking along Raja’s seat road as more tourists are expected over the weekend. “Also, since there is a school on this road, increased movement and parking of vehicles may create hardship for school children,” the Deputy Commissioner said before exercising powers under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Disaster Management Act 2005 and the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) rules 1990; While public and tourists were allowed entry, parking of vehicles near the Raja’s seat was prohibited. Raja’s seat was banned from 9 to 12 July as a precautionary measure.
