‘Last summer we couldn’t go outside’

One bored Redditor They reached the end of their patience when their neighbor’s neglected pool became a mosquito breeding ground.
“We couldn’t go out last summer,” said the disappointed Redditor. “[After] “Even if you’re outside for ten seconds, half a dozen mosquitoes will jump on you.”

As if itchy mosquito bites weren’t enough, this Reddit user said mosquitoes are a real health problem. “Zika has been reported in mosquitoes where I live (off the coast of Texas),” they shared.
The post appeared on: r/legal advice – a subreddit some homeowners turn to when communication has broken down and legal action is on the table.
In this case, the language barrier was part of the problem. “I can’t approach the family that owns the pool because they speak zero English,” the Reddit user said.
Instead, the Reddit user claimed that they approached authorities, including the homeowners association (HOA) and the city’s code enforcement, with a photo they took using a drone. “The HOA will not accept my photo as evidence because they say this is a privacy issue and the issue cannot be seen from the street,” they said.
Law enforcement told them something similar, the Redditor reported. “He says he can’t look over there because of the brick wall, and I’m two doors down, so he can’t see it with his own eyes. The property that would allow you to look over it is seized.”
However, they added the alarming photo to the Reddit post. In the photo, the pool was a striking green, brighter than the nearby grass, and clearly taken over by algae.

A third reviewer offered A practical solution. “My sister put in about 40 goldfish from the pet store [my mother’s old pool]and there were schools of fish for years. They ate mosquito larvae… The fish seemed happy with the algae and did not require any maintenance.”
