Adityanath, Tata Sons chairman discuss AI City plan, investment avenues in Uttar Pradesh

According to the official statement, the meeting held wide-ranging discussions on long-term cooperation in sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, electronics, defense manufacturing, energy, renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), tourism, skill development and digital economy.
The statement stated that during the interaction, Chandrasekaran proposed the development of an ‘Artificial Intelligence City’ in the state capital Lucknow, aiming to position Uttar Pradesh as a global hub for artificial intelligence.
The project is expected to strengthen the startup ecosystem and create thousands of employment opportunities based on future technologies.
The two sides also reviewed the progress of the Rs 48-crore Center of Excellence being developed in Gorakhpur, which is expected to provide advanced technical training and opportunities to youth, especially in Purvanchal district.
The statement said that under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Kanpur, Tata Group initiatives will help create an industry-ready workforce by training youth in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, 3D printing, drones and space technology.
Discussions were also held on setting up a Global Talent Center (GCC) in the state and expanding Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) units in Lucknow, Noida and Varanasi. TCS’s proposal to increase the workforce at its Lucknow and Noida hubs from 16,000 to 30,000 has been described as a significant boost to the state’s digital talent pool. The Tata Group has expressed interest in expanding investments in mobile devices, electronic components and other high-tech products, citing the rapid pace of development of Uttar Pradesh in electronics manufacturing.
The meeting also touched upon a collaboration with Intel to further strengthen the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the state.
It was stated that expanding investments in electric buses, electric vehicles and new vehicle models was also discussed.
On defense manufacturing, the Tata Group has proposed increasing investments in unmanned aerial vehicles, missiles and defense vehicles at various nodes of the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor, including Jhansi. The group shared details of the project expansion under Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA) and assured full support in line with the state’s defense priorities.
Chief Minister Adityanath said the state government is committed to ensuring a stable policy framework, transparent systems and a business-friendly environment for investors.
He expressed confidence that the multi-dimensional partnership with the Tata Group will take the state’s economy, employment generation and technological self-reliance to new heights.
The meeting was described as an important milestone towards the state’s goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
Chandrasekaran informed the chief minister that construction of 30 hotels under Tata Group’s hospitality brands Taj, SeleQtions and Vivanta is ongoing in the state and around 1,900 luxury rooms will be added to them.
According to the statement, the chief minister said there are also plans to build 30 more hotels by 2026, including the proposed state-of-the-art signature hotel in Noida.
The two sides also reviewed the progress of the proposed ‘Temple Museum’ project in Ayodhya and emphasized on completion of the first phase by January 2027. The museum will feature technology-focused exhibitions that aim to attract the attention of local and foreign tourists.
It was also agreed that the Tata Group will support cleanliness and conservation work in major Ganga ghats in the state, along with rejuvenation of eight major ponds in the Mathura-Vrindavan region, including Mansi Ganga Kund, Shyam Kund, Radha Kund and Krishna Kund.
Chandrasekaran said Tata Motors has expanded electric vehicle production in Uttar Pradesh and is working on new EV models. He briefed the Prime Minister about important initiatives related to energy infrastructure and industrial development.
He said Tata Power operates a 1,900-megawatt thermal unit at its Bara plant in Prayagraj, contributing significantly to the energy needs of the state, while solar power projects have also been expedited.
Tata Power Solar is playing a key role in the state’s renewable energy drive with 50 megawatt solar projects operating in Prayagraj and Banda. Additionally, solar roof projects are being implemented in all 75 counties, supporting the state’s sustainable development goals and efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
