Maharashtra to upgrade 19 secondary ashram schools to junior college for tribals

The Maharashtra government, in the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, approved upgrading of 19 secondary schools to junior secondary level and 5 primary ashram schools to secondary level under the Tribal Development Department.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, decided to improve classrooms to prevent dropouts and sustain the educational progress of tribal students in hilly and remote areas of the state. The decision will create posts and provide expenditure for the improvement of these ashram schools.
