Man slashed in face after being accused of break-in at friend’s Bondi apartment

A man accused of breaking into his friend’s home in Sydney’s east has suffered facial injuries.

Police were told Jose, 33, returned from dinner at his friend’s house on the top floor of a block of flats on Ramsgate Avenue, Bondi Beach, at around 11.15pm on Saturday.

While he was going downstairs, it was alleged that 32-year-old Riccardo Cazzato, who lived on the ground floor of the apartment, approached Jose.

Mr Cazzato was allegedly armed with a knife and accused Jose of breaking into the complex.

“This man runs towards him with a knife in his hand and pushes him against the wall,” Jose’s friend Martin Farooqi told 7News.

“In a matter of seconds, my friend was on the edge of the knife.”

Mr. Cazzato had earlier reported the break-in to police, when a neighbor asked if residents had seen anyone running away.

Jose, who moved to Australia from Chile, was cut on his face and hand while trying to stop the attack.

“He has terrible looking injuries very close to his eye, which shows that he was very, very lucky, because even an inch apart could have really hurt him,” Farooqi said.
