Marco Rubio holds talks with PM Modi during Delhi visit; invites prime minister to White House

After the meetings, the US Ambassador to India announced that Rubio conveyed an invitation to the prime minister to visit the White House on behalf of US President Donald Trump.

Energy likely became the main focus of the meeting, with Washington expected to seek to position itself as India’s long-term supplier amid growing uncertainty in global markets.
According to previous reports, Rubio is understood to be discussing increasing American exports of liquefied natural gas and LPG to India, which is struggling to stabilize domestic energy supplies after weeks of volatility in international crude oil markets.
The meeting likely also discussed India’s ongoing purchases of Russian crude oil; The issue strained relations between Washington and New Delhi last year, before the current energy crisis prompted a change in US approach.
