He offered a striking response to Chris Murphy after the Connecticut Democrat asked him to specifically pledge to comply with a judge’s order that Homeland Security stop an activity that a court has deemed illegal. “I will tell you that we will never violate the Constitution and the law, but we will enforce the laws of our nation,” the secretary told Murphy in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s violations of nearly 100 court orders in a month. Murphy made clear that DHS can only comply with the law if it complies with court orders.
