Forecasters are predicting high temperatures above 30C for London next week.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 28C in London on Saturday and 32C on Monday.

This follows a record-breaking June heatwave in Norfolk, which saw the mercury soar to 37.7°C; This was the hottest June day on record.

Met Office chief scientist Professor Stephen Belcher said: “Human-caused climate change has made such events more likely and more intense.

“It is sobering to see temperatures like this in the UK in June.

“Events like this highlight the effects of climate change, with very high temperatures and humidity impacting sectors as diverse as transport, energy and water supply, as well as significant health impacts from heat stress.”
