Michael Jordan leads star names at Pep Guardiola’s Man City leaving party

Earlier on Monday, thousands of City fans lined the streets of Manchester to bid a final farewell to the departing Guardiola.

This season’s successful men’s, women’s and academy teams were bussed to the Etihad Stadium where they were greeted by a waiting crowd before heading to Co-Op Live for the ‘after party’.

All three teams celebrated their cup victories on stage as City announced that women’s striker Khadija Shaw had signed a new four-year contract to remain at the club.

Guardiola’s three children, as well as former captain Fernandinho, former sporting director Txiki Begiristain and goalkeeper Ederson, who left last summer, have helped deliver all 20 trophies won under Guardiola.

The surprise appearances of current Bayern Munich boss Kompany and midfielder Jack Grealish, who is on loan at Everton for a season, were loudly applauded by those in attendance.

Guardiola said his final farewell to Oasis star Noel Gallagher in an interview.

“First of all, thank you very much for coming to say goodbye tonight,” Guardiola said.

“I feel like tonight really shows the bond that this club has. [City chairman] Khaldoon Al Mubarak and all the people and City fans connected from the first minute.

“Thank you so much, I don’t have enough gratitude. I will always carry you in my heart for the rest of my life.”

Tributes were also paid to captain Bernardo Silva and defender John Stones, who will leave the club this summer when their contracts expire.

Striker Erling Haaland said on stage: “It was a pleasure to play with Bernardo and John and of course Pep.

“We won a lot of trophies and I am happy to play with Bernardo and John because they are great football players but actually they are even better people.

“It’s been a great journey but even without them we have to keep pushing and fighting.”
