Michael Voss resigns as coach of Carlton Blues
Carlton coach Michael Voss has resigned as Carlton’s senior coach.
This imprint confirmed that it was a mutual decision and that Voss made the decision to leave before last Friday night’s match against Brisbane at the Gabba.
A meeting of Carlton staff is planned for 10am where they will be formally informed of the decision.
The Blues’ only victory was against Richmond in round 1, winning by four points. They lost seven games in a row and their habit of giving up half-time leads proved debilitating for Carlton and Voss.
Last season, the Carlton hierarchy, led by new CEO Graham Wright, guaranteed Voss would only coach until 2026. His contract expires at the end of this year.
Carlton will play the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
Voss, the former Brisbane Lions champion who led the dynasty in the early 2000s, took over as manager, succeeding Adam Kingsley, at the end of 2021 following the sacking of David Teague.
The Blues narrowly missed out on the 2022 finals series, losing to Collingwood in the last round, and the following season Voss led them to a preliminary final against his former club Brisbane after a huge season recovery when his position was in jeopardy.
The Blues leadership strongly backed him but from the midway point of the 2024 season, when they were in the top four, they fell off and failed to recapture their peak of 24 in early 2023.
