Moment woman who killed stepdaughter almost 50 years ago is arrested | News

Bodycam footage shows the moment a woman was arrested at Heathrow Airport for murdering her stepdaughter nearly 50 years ago.

On Tuesday (May 26), Janice Nix, 67, was found guilty of manslaughter in 1978 by forcing Andrea Bernard into a boiling bath in Thornton Heath, south London.

Isleworth Crown Court heard Andrea died nearly six weeks after being taken to hospital with burns to 50% of her body.

His death was ruled an accident until 2022, when his older brother, Desmond Bernard, went to the police with a different version of events. Nix had initially claimed that Andrea had been bathing herself and then complained of itching legs before fainting.

He was arrested after arriving by plane from Antigua on February 18, 2025, and charged later the same day.

Nix had denied both involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty charges. He was later arrested and sent to prison for punishment.
