Girl, 17, ‘raped by four Afghan nationals including 16-year-old boy over several hours’ | UK | News

A 17-year-old girl was raped by four Afghan nationals after being brought to a house and given alcohol and cigarettes, the court heard. Mehrab Safi, 21, Awal Ahmadzai and Salman Habibkheil, 19, and a school-age boy allegedly attacked the girl in Bristol.
The jury was told the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was out Christmas shopping with a friend at Cabot Circus Shopping Center when they spoke to Safi, whom they had not met before. He then asked her to add him to Snapchat before asking for nude photos of her on November 28. Two days later, Safi allegedly arranged for an early morning taxi to take him from his home in Somerset to Bristol. He was first dropped off in the industrial area of the city, where Safi and Habibkheil were waiting. The trio then got into a second taxi, which took them to a property in the St Werburghs area.
Bristol Crown Court heard she was given cigarettes and vodka when she arrived at the property before she was allegedly raped by Safi and the other defendants.
Prosecutor Ed Hetherington said: “After arriving she was taken to a house in St Werburghs and was soon expected to have sex with Mr Safi.
“He didn’t want it yet, but it happened anyway.”
The court was told that after Safi was allegedly raped, the other three defendants “took turns leaving her alone in the bedroom or in bed and having sex with her against her will.”
“He was alone,” Mr. Hetherington added. “He was left alone in the dead of the night, miles away from his home, in a city he didn’t know, in a house full of men he didn’t know.”
Jurors were told the alleged assault ended when the girl’s mother contacted police.
It was also revealed that Safi, Ahmadzai and Habibkheil fled England in the back of a truck on December 3, just three days after the alleged rape took place.
Three Afghan citizens were discovered by French authorities in Calais. Mr Hetherington said the trio fled the house when police arrived and subsequently traveled to both Birmingham and London.
“In the early morning of December 4, the three were handed over to the custody of the British police.”
Mr Hetherington said the three defendants did not have any travel documents or identity documents and gave false names to French authorities.
“Their real names were checked against police systems and they were arrested on suspicion of rape,” he added.
Mobile phone analysis also showed they were searching for news in Bristol and information about sexual activity with a teenage girl.
“At this point the three defendants are still at large, which gives the clearest possible indication that they were aware that they had done a very serious wrong indeed,” Mr Hetherington said.
Safi denied one count of human trafficking and two counts of rape. Habibkheil has denied one count of human trafficking and one count of rape.
While Ahmadzai denied one count of rape and one count of rape, the 16-year-old boy also pleaded not guilty to one count of rape.
The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
