According to police, the dead include a State Investigation Agency (SIA) official, two revenue officials from the magistrate’s team, three forensic team personnel, two crime photographers and a tailor.

Terming it an accidental outburst, DGP Prabhat said, “there is no need for any further speculation regarding the course of this incident.”

A large quantity of explosives, chemicals and resin were seized in Haryana’s Faridabad city during raids carried out earlier in the week as part of the investigation into an inter-state terror module case, the official said.

“Like other rescues, this rescue too was safely transported and kept in an open area of Nowgam. As part of the procedure, the recovery samples had to be forwarded to the forensic laboratory. Considering the voluminous nature of the recovery, an investigation was on by the Forensic Science Laboratory team yesterday and the previous day,” said DGP Prabhat.

Given its unstable and sensitive nature, the sampling process and processing were carried out with extreme caution by the FSL team. “However, unfortunately, an accidental explosion occurred during this course around 11.20 pm last night. The reason for this unfortunate incident is being investigated,” J&K DGP said.

Of the 27 injured police officers, 2 revenue officers and 3 civilians were treated.

Due to the explosion, the building near the police station was also severely damaged. “The extent of damage is being determined,” the DGP said.
