nirmala sitharaman: ‘Can a Dead Economy grow at 8.2%?’: Nirmala Sitharaman rebuts Trump remark, clarifies IMF Grade – The Economic Times Video

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has hit back at claims in the Lok Sabha that India is a “dead economy”, responding to an earlier statement by US President Donald Trump. Without naming her, Sitharaman said that India’s economic health should be evaluated with reliable data, not individual comments. Sitharaman cited India’s 8.2% GDP growth, global institutions’ credit rating upgrades and the RBI’s upward revision of growth forecasts as examples. The finance minister also clarified reports on allegations that the IMF had given a ‘C grade’ to India, saying India’s overall data quality rating remained at median ‘B’ and the downgrade claims were misleading. Sitharaman also highlighted India’s manufacturing expansion, export growth and falling debt-to-GDP ratio as evidence of economic resilience.
