Nitesh Rane sentenced to one month in jail for insulting NHA engineer

A Sessions Court in Sindhdurg found Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nitesh Rane guilty of deliberately insulting a public servant on Monday, April 27, 2026. The court sentenced Rane to one month’s imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh for forcing the National Highways Authority engineer to walk on a muddy road.
Additional Sessions Judge VS Deshmukh stated that Rane, then an MLA from the Congress party, forced Prakash Shedekar, a Sub-Divisional Engineer with the National Highways Authority (NHA), to walk on a mud-covered road. The incident took place on July 4, 2019, in Rane’s constituency, Kankavali.
