Inside the Reiners’ tragic last supper with famous friend… hours before their murders: Restaurant staff tell heartbreaking details

Less than 48 hours before director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found dead, their throats slit in a grisly attack at their $13.5 million Brentwood mansion, the couple shared a festive dinner at a favorite spot nearby.

Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, who had a long history of addiction and lived in guest houses, was arrested just hours after their bodies were found on Sunday night.

He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The murders are thought to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, shortly after Reiners attended comedian Conan O’Brien’s holiday party with Nick on Saturday, where he reportedly told guests they were ‘scared’ of what he might do if left alone.

The Reiners reportedly left the party after an angry argument between Nick and Rob got out of control.

But the previous evening the family seemed worlds away from tragedy.

“They were very nice people, always very friendly and very courteous to all the staff,” DeLuca said Thursday.

‘We are all in complete shock. We are all saddened by what happened. They’re very nice people, very friendly and have always been very nice to everyone here.’

Staff said the trio enjoyed Amici’s winter special, Sogliola Alla Mugnaia (imported Dover sole with lemon caper sauce, served with broccolini and roasted potatoes) along with pasta.

The Reiners were regulars at the busy Italian restaurant, often ordering their favorite dish, artichoke salad, and were known for being warm and friendly.

Memorably, the restaurant is located directly across the street from the Sinclair gas station where security cameras captured Nick walking late on the Saturday night before the alleged murders; the same gas station where employees noticed Nick’s behavior changing in the days leading up to the murders.

Staff described him as ‘exhausted’ and ‘abnormal’ compared to his usual demeanor. (The Reiner family were regulars at the gas station.)

Staff noted that this change was particularly jarring because just a few months ago Nick had been friendly and talkative; He continued to chat most of the time during his visits.

They emphasized that he did not appear to be impaired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“It was great,” the When Harry Met Sally director said in an interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, adding that Nick “hasn’t done drugs in over six years.”

‘He’s in a really good place,’ Reiner said.

Nick is currently being held without bail on suicide watch in administrative isolation at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

After the bodies were discovered by his sister, Romy Reiner, investigators quickly focused on her, who told police her brother was ‘dangerous’ and ‘must be suspicious.’

Law enforcement sources on Tuesday indicated that Rob and Michele were likely dead for several hours before they were found around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, and that their bodies were already in rigor mortis.

The filmmaker and his photographer wife were stabbed to death with their throats slit, authorities said.

A source close to the investigation told the Daily Mail the couple were in bed together and may have been sleeping when they were attacked.

‘I loved Michele and Rob Reiner,’ he wrote. ‘We raised our children together, starting with my mother and me. ‘We laughed together, we cried together, we played together, we dreamed together.’

He continued: ‘We had dinner last week and they were in the best place of their lives: loving each other, loving their friends, their family, their country.’

Shriver praised the Reiners as lifelong optimists devoted to family and civic duty, saying they “never gave up on our country” and always wanted to “make our world better.”

‘I am devastated, heartbroken, shocked, stunned,’ he wrote. ‘Life here won’t be the same without you, that’s for sure.’

Hours later, he publicly condemned Donald Trump after he refused to offer condolences and defended a controversial social media post about Reiner.

“I wasn’t a fan of his,” Trump said when asked about the director. ‘According to Trump, he was an unstable person.’

Trump had previously suggested in a Truth Social post that the killings were linked to what Reiner called ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’.

‘I think he damaged himself career-wise, he became an unstable person. [with] Trump imbalance syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner in any way. “I thought he was very bad for our country,” Trump wrote.

Shriver reacted on social media, writing: ‘I always try to rise above the noise but this individual has no human decency. It goes beyond this. Absolutely disgusting. ‘We should all be horrified and disgusted by this inhumane behavior because it is what it is.’

He added: ‘Rob and Michele Reiner were good people and good friends of mine and countless others. Their families are in deep and unimaginable pain. ‘What kind of person, let alone a president, would share a statement like that?’

Although he said his late friends would urge him to exercise restraint, Shriver felt compelled to speak out.

‘Rob and Michele would tell me to ignore it but I can’t. I can’t do it. And I hope you don’t either,’ he wrote. ‘They deserve much better, as do their families.’

She shut down speculation about their parentage by denying it.

‘Rob and Michele Reiner were devoted parents. They loved all their children very much and never stopped taking care of them. Each.”
