Congress Crafts Long-Term Revival Strategy In Odisha Under Bhakta Das’ Leadership

BHUBANESWAR: The Congress Party in Odisha seems to be drawing a serious long -term strategy to reclaim the lost political ground in the state under the direction of Bhakta Charan Das, President of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). Once upon a time, a dominant force in Odisha has been out of power since 2000 and fell to the third position in the political hierarchy of the state. However, recent movements show that there is a determined offer for revival.
On Friday, the party showed the intention of the high decibel rally in Bhubaneswar, headed by the Congress Chairman Mallikarjun Kharge, chaired by the opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and senior leader Kc Venugopal. ‘Sambidhan Banchao’ (Save the Constitution) rally, more than 60,000 party workers and base leaders drew and focused on focusing on Odisha before the Congress’s 2027 local body elections and 2029 parliamentary surveys.
The Congress leadership launched an attack on both the center of Narendra Modi and the newly established Mohan Majhi government in Odisha. Rahul Gandhi accused BJP governments of “weakening democratic institutions” and “neglecting the welfare of people”. The leaders also targeted the state government with failure in law and order, increased persecution against women and weakening of public services.
Political observers see the timing of the rally strategically. BİJU Janata Dal (BJD) – The main opposition party of the state – after the defeat of the election in 2024, and the congress, which faced the decreasing health of Supremo Naveen Patnaik, follows the vacuum to be reconstructed as an alternative to Odisha. BJD is currently holding 51 seats in 147 -member parliament, while the Congress has 14. The ruling BJP commands the majority with 78 seats.
The insiders argue that the emergency target of the Congress is to remove the BJD from the second point in 2027 rural and urban local body surveys. There, success, party strategists believe that the morale -free squad will galvanize the base of the squad and gain momentum for a greater return in the 2029 state elections.
This is not the first great social help of the party in recent months. On March 28, the Odisha Congress organized the ‘Nari Nyay’ rally, which accused the state government of protecting women’s rights by emphasizing gender -based violence.
The national leadership is now hoping to rebuild its existence through consistent base mobilization, problem -based campaigns and strategic alliances, as the national leadership is now more participation in government affairs. This plan seems to have turned into election gains, but undoubtedly added a new dynamic to the developing political landscape of Odisha.
