Nvidia to invest $4 billion in two photonics companies

Nvidia announced that it will invest a total of $4 billion in two companies that develop photonic technologies.
The US chip giant announced on Monday that it will invest $2 billion Lumentum and the same amount Consistent.
Lumentum is a US-based company that develops optical and photonic technologies to power the networks and infrastructure behind artificial intelligence, cloud computing and next-generation communications.
Coherent, also based in the US, develops photonic technology, which refers to the use of light (photons) to create components and systems that enable high-performance optical applications.
“NVIDIA, together with Lumentum, is developing the world’s most advanced silicon photonics to build the next generation of gigawatt-scale AI factories,” Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement.
He added that Nvidia will work with Coherent to develop next-generation silicon photonics for AI infrastructure.
