NYPD officers rescue teen girl from freezing waters

Three NYPD officers heroically saved a young girl from drowning in the freezing waters of the Harlem River on Tuesday after hearing her screams for help.

Body camera video released by the NYPD shows the girl struggling in the frigid water near 142nd Street around 2 p.m. local time, while officers can be seen calling out to the girl and asking if she would like to swim.

The dramatic video also shows a police officer taking off his jacket and jumping into the river to reach the distressed teenager about 20 meters from the shore.

Another officer can be seen carefully moving along a narrow, concrete ledge, ready to assist the officer in the water and pull the girl to safety.

At one point he shouted “Help him!” Rescuers were heard working together to pull the girl from the water.

according to New York PostThe officers were identified as Ankit Gupta, Wilmer Guerrero and Shuaibul Amine and were members of the 32nd Precinct in Uptown Manhattan.

They were praised Thursday for their quick response and teamwork.

“Our officers had no hesitation when it came to saving a life. 32nd Precinct officers spotted a woman in the East River and jumped into the cold water to pull her to safety,” the NYPD said in a statement.

Evaluating the rescue, Constable Gupta told the Post:

While the police were searching for the suspect, the couple was found tied up in their house near the famous race track and burned to death.

The teams pulled the girl out of the water.

“Saving someone is a wonderful thing. That’s what we signed up for, right?” Officer Amine added.
