Paris Record Shop Puts a Cat in Charge and the Instant Regret Is Too Real
There’s a record store in Paris that can’t exactly appoint a manager. No name tags were given, no titles were given. But they allowed a cat to land on one of the store’s most attractive spots. Where customers rummage through records to find their prized “white whale.” You know, the hit vinyl they can’t find anywhere else.
Anyone who collects vinyl knows the feeling. My husband has a list of records he’s been chasing for years. Vinyl collectors are driven.
No one hurried to move the cat while customers came and did what customers do (stop, peek, lie down). The video shows how this decision plays out when people start intruding into the cat’s personal domain, with albums within arm’s reach suddenly operating under a very different set of rules. Check out this very different idea of “customer service.”
OWIE! It turns out the customer was doing everything wrong. One viewer said, “Don’t touch the goods. Ask and he’ll bring it to you.” he said. Hmm, makes sense. Another commenter theory: “He just finished fixing these and knew full well you wouldn’t buy anything. The crash is valid.”
Others said this was standard Parisian customer service and no one should be surprised. “That’s French for you.” “Honestly average Parisian customer service.”

My cat deleted an entire paragraph while I was writing this, so I act with 100% authority on this matter. But cats are not vindictive. They are just strategic and smart. whatever hotIT smells like youand you’re so focused on it, so it must be super awesome! Add in the fact that cats have territorial instincts and it’s great! This is theirs!
This instinct does not disappear in very busy places like record stores (bookstores, pubs, anywhere you are likely to see a cat), it just applies to different items. Like books, records and groceries. Catnip is everywhere people show interest, and we all know how cats feel about it!

In this case, it was pretty clear that when this cat sat on these records they planted their little flag and staked their claim. Any unauthorized hand was a violation of policy and was punishable by slapping. You can browse, but only on their terms.
