Part of Under-Construction Bridge Collapses in UP, Six Labourers Killed

Hamirpur: Six workers were killed and three others were injured when part of an under-construction bridge collapsed following a storm over the Betwa river in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district early Friday, officials said. Officials said the incident took place around 3 am between Parsani and Kandaur villages when a part of the bridge being built from Maurakandar to Kurara collapsed.
According to officials, several workers working on the bridge construction were sleeping on top of a slab when it suddenly collapsed.
Police said the deceased were identified as Lokendra (22), Kuldeep Nishad (19), Sawant Yadav (28) and Sabhajeet (30), Pushpendra Chauhan (34) and Rajesh Pal (42).
3 workers who were trapped under a pillar were later rescued.
The injured were taken to the district hospital in Hamirpur.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Lalpura police station, Rajesh Kumar Saroj, said that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and debris removal efforts are on to ensure that no other workers are trapped under the rubble.
