Police launched a murder investigation after a young boy’s head was found in a backpack left in a pond.

Police said the child, believed to be aged between seven and ten, had “bruises” around his neck. The discovery was made in Golyanovsky Pond in Moscow, Russia.

Investigators are still at the scene in the Russian capital while the prosecutor’s office is overseeing the investigation.

The child is thought to have died more than two days ago.

The rest of the child’s remains were not found. Divers are searching the pond to find the body.

Investigators have not yet identified the child.
