Philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam More Relevant Today in Face of Global Challenges: Murmu

Luckily: Amid today’s unprecedented global challenges, the ancient philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) is more relevant than ever, President Droupadi Murmu said on Friday. Murmu was speaking at the launch of Brahma Kumaris’ 2025-26 annual theme ‘Meditation for World Unity and Trust’ here.
“India’s ancient civilization and rich cultural heritage have always embodied the timeless principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. This is a message that has become more relevant in today’s world facing uncertainties and global challenges,” the President said.
Today, people are more educated and technologically advanced than ever before, and they have countless opportunities to advance. But alongside this progress, society is grappling with increased stress, mental insecurity, insecurity, and loneliness.
“The need of the hour is not just to move forward but also to look within,” Murmu said. “Every person wants to trust others, but trust exists only where the mind is calm, thoughts are clear and emotions are pure.
“When we stop for a moment and communicate with ourselves, we realize that peace and happiness do not exist in any external object, and that when spiritual consciousness awakens within us, love, brotherhood, compassion and unity automatically become a part of life,” he said.
The President said that a calm and stable mind sows the seeds of peace in society and from here the foundations of world peace and unity are laid.
Murmu presented a decorated ‘kalash’ and flags to the Brahma Kumaris who would perform a yatra covering every corner of Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, who welcomed the President earlier, said her presence made the occasion historic.
“Your commitment to national interests, humanity and values is an inspiration to all of us,” the governor said.
Patel praised the Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya of Brahma Kumaris and said that the institution has taken steps to promote noble values of life, marking the beginning of global consciousness.
“This spiritual banyan tree spreads its scent to 136 countries, its branches connect hearts together,” he said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said this is a grand campaign with the goal of global unity.
Welcoming Murmu, he said: “Apart from being the constitutional leader of a nation, the President’s life as a teacher was inspiring… His life journey is an example for every Indian.”
Rajyogi BK Nathmal Ji of Brahma Kumaris said that India can become the guru of the world only when there is a sense of unity and faith in the hearts of everyone.
He said Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya has been working in this direction since its establishment in 1936.
