Prince William and Kate’s genius plan before Prince George’s birth | Royal | News

The Prince and Princess of Wales had to come up with a real plan to avoid making any mistakes as they left the hospital with their first-born son, Prince George. Prince George, who celebrates his 13th birthday this week, was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London on July 22, 2013, and the royal couple introduced the young prince to the world’s media waiting outside the hospital’s Lindo Wing a few days later.

Prince William said his son had “good lungs” and joked that George already had more hair than him. However, the duo had rehearsed their exit several times beforehand to ensure a smooth separation. The Princess of Wales revealed on Giovanna Fletcher’s “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” podcast in 2020 that she and William practiced using a doll before putting the newborn prince in his car seat to avoid any embarrassment.

He said: “We were thinking, ‘What are we going to do with the swaddle?…’ ‘How is this going to work?!’

“We even tried practicing at home with a little baby, like a little doll, but you know things never go as you plan, so it was quite difficult to do it on the world stage, but no, he did a great job.”

At the time, the Prince and Princess of Wales were reportedly given parenting classes at a conservatory before George was born.

While Catherine mostly attended the lectures, which are said to have been held at the conservatory of the late obstetric physiotherapist Christine Hill’s home in West London, William was also present at one of them.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Catherine said her experience and journey as a mother would allow her to pass on the “huge amount” of knowledge she has accumulated over the years to her younger self when she first became pregnant.

Ms Fletcher asked: “If you could write a letter to anyone about motherhood, who would it be to and what would you say?”

The future queen replied: “Can I write to myself, is that really weird? I think I would have wanted to write to myself at the beginning of my pregnancy with my first child.”

“This comes not only from what I’ve experienced as a mother, but also from what I’ve learned in my journey. I’ve learned a lot that I’d really like to go back and tell myself in the beginning. The things I feel now are really important in terms of being a parent and the things that really matter to my kids.”
