Princess Anne announces major trip overseas | Royal | News

Buckingham Palace has announced that Princess Anne will embark on a royal trip abroad later this month. The Princess Royal will travel to Greece from Friday 22 May until Sunday 24 May.

She will be accompanied by her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence. Anne will visit Athens and Crete as head of the Seafarers’ Mission. His visit will mark the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete.

In Crete, Anne will attend a ceremony at the RAF Memorial in Maleme to commemorate the airmen of 30 Squadron and 33 Squadron RAF who gave their lives in defensive action during the Battle of Crete in 1941.

He will also attend the Memorial Service at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Souda Bay.

Prior to the royal wreath laying there will be a flyover by 30 Squadron RAF and the Red Arrows.

He will then travel to Chania, where he will attend a reception at the Grand Arsenal and meet relatives of those who fought in the 1941 war and UK Armed Forces veterans who settled on the island.

While there, he will visit the Firkas castle in the port of Chania, followed by a brief tour of the neighboring Cretan Maritime Museum.

The King’s sister will then attend a ceremony at Chania Cathedral as part of the 85th Anniversary commemorations, then inspect the Guard and Band and march towards the Old Port of Chania.

At the port, the Princess Royal will watch the traditional flag parade and the Red Arrow Spectacular.
