Rabbitohs cut Penrith’s lead to two at half-time after Walker sin-bin
The final 40 minutes begin with Souths kicking off and Penrith quickly attacking thanks to an Edward Kosi mistake. Rabbitoh bench forward Liam Le Blanc makes a terrific ball-and-all tackle on Lindsay Smith, picking up Penrith’s lock and putting her on her back. But the Panthers still continue their attack, with Dylan Edwards forcing a clever tackle on goal.
The next set ends with Jack Cogger bombing towards Tom Jenkins’ flank, but South rookie Dayne Jennings flies high to take him down. He’s having a great match.
But another error by South, this time from Jack Wighton, handed the ball back to Penrith. They bombed once more to Jenkins and Jennings, the referee ruling that Jennings had knocked – but Souths successfully exploited the captaincy challenge when the dugout noticed Jennings had caught the ball in his own goal. The Rabbitohs get a 20-foot tap instead.
Panthers 12, Rabbitohs 10, 34 minutes remaining
