Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, after a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday, June 14, 2026, said that the rebel Trinamool Congress MPs will merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party.
After meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Dr. “20 MPs met the Speaker and asked for separate seating arrangements to be made for us. We are more than two-thirds of the MPs and will unite with the Nationalist Citizens Party. We will work with the NDA for the interest of the country,” Dr Dastidar said.

Meanwhile, ahead of the rebel MPs’ planned meeting with Speaker Om Birla, Trinamool Congress’s parliamentary party leader in the Lok Sabha, Abhishek Banerjee, had written a letter to the Speaker, warning him not to grant any recognition, status or facilities to any group claiming to be a separate faction of the party.
The split within the party’s Lok Sabha contingent became evident earlier this week when opposition MPs publicly broke ranks with Mamata Banerjee’s leadership.
On Monday, June 15, 2026, Ms. Dastidar had sought the support of around 20 TMC MPs, saying that the group aims to support the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.
