Six Killed, Four Critical As Speeding Bus Hits Auto In Odisha’s Ganjam

What are you doing? At least six people were killed and four others were seriously injured when a speeding bus crashed into a rickshaw near Ladakapalli Chhak under Purushottampur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.
According to the information obtained, around 10 people from one family were going to the famous Maa Singhasini temple by rickshaw when the tragic accident occurred. Eyewitnesses said that the overspeeding bus hit the rickshaw from behind and allegedly dragged it for a while, leaving the vehicle completely shattered.
The impact of the collision was so severe that 3 people died at the scene. The remaining seven injured passengers were immediately rescued by local people and police personnel and taken to Kodala Medical for treatment. However, when doctors arrived at the scene, they announced that three more victims had died, bringing the death toll to six.
The four surviving victims are in critical condition, sources said. They were later transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
It was claimed that the bus driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident. A joint team of Purushottampur and Kodala police arrived at the scene and started an investigation into the incident. Efforts are continuing to track down the escaped driver and identify the bus involved in the accident.
While many citizens gathered at the scene of the accident after the tragedy, the incident caused panic and tension in the region.
Meanwhile, Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the loss of life and announced that the relatives of the deceased will give ex-gratia of 4 lakh rupees per person.
