Bharatiya Janata Party After years of threatening to defeat the country, the (BJP) has finally breached West Bengal. All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). As of May 5, 2026, after the results were declared, the ruling party at the Center had won 207 of the 293 Assembly seats in the state (more than two-thirds of the Assembly), relegating Mamata Banerjee’s AITC to a distant second position with 80 seats.
The BJP achieved this by garnering 45.84%, increasing its vote share by nearly eight points compared to 2021; This is nearly five points more than the 41.08% of the TMC+ alliance (in coalition with BGPM from Darjeeling region). While the Left Front+ alliance recorded a limited presence with two seats and 6.66% votes, the Congress also secured two seats with 2.97% votes.
