Gov. Josh Shapiro, D-Pa., said in an interview with CBS’ Norah O’Donnell on Sunday that former Vice President Kamala Harris’ investigative team was not respectful of his wife, among other questions he considered troubling.

“You say in the book that you advised your wife that she should buy new clothes. She would have to pay for hair and makeup. She would have to move up to vice president, all that stuff. And it seemed like that bothered you a little bit.” O’Donnell said.

O’Donnell spoke with Shapiro about his new book, “Where We Shed the Light,” which will be released Tuesday. In the book, Shapiro details the vetting process he went through with Harris.

“Look, there were some moments throughout this process where I was asked certain things or, like you just said, I felt like people weren’t very respectful of my wife, which made me question whether this was something I really wanted to do,” Shapiro responded.

O’Donnell pressed Shapiro about the process and said he wrote in the book that he felt the review process was unnecessarily contentious.

“In the book, I write about both the vetting process and the best way I can serve. I thought some of the comments about my wife were inappropriate as it relates to the vetting process. I also thought it was offensive to ask me if I was a double agent for the Israeli government,” he said.

In the book, he wrote that Biden’s former aide Dana Remus was asked whether he was an “agent of the Israeli government” and

“I understand they had a job to do to ask me these questions. I think it went beyond just checking a box on the survey,” he told O’Donnell.

O’Donnell also asked why he thought he was being asked this question, to which he said he did not know.

“I don’t want to sit here and ascribe faith to others. I would say that strikes me as offensive. I’ve devoted my entire adult life to serving this country, serving this country in different elected capacities, different volunteer capacities. I love this country. And for someone to question that, for someone to question my loyalty, was offensive to me, especially as someone who is as open about her faith as she is,” he said.

Shapiro said he realized the people questioning him were just doing their job.

He also said he did not know whether Harris knew she was being asked these questions, specifically about being an agent of Israel.
