Tirupati: A serious security breach was reported at the Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati on Friday night. After the completion of Ekanta Seva, a man allegedly entered the temple premises by jumping over the compound wall in a drunken state before the staff on duty noticed him.

The intruder entered the Mahadwaram precinct and climbed the temple gopuram, where he tried to pull the kalashams, causing panic among the temple authorities and devotees. The accused was later identified as Tirupati, a resident of Pedda Malla Reddy Colony in Kurmavada in Nizamabad district.

Police and fire personnel worked for nearly three hours to bring him down from the gopuram safely. The teams managed to restrain the person using a ladder and take him into custody.
