Severe weather risk elevated along the Willamette Valley Friday

PORTLAND, ore. (KOIN) — Sunny afternoon skies and warmer temperatures help increase Oregon’s severe weather threat Friday evening.
The warming atmosphere is helping to increase the potential for severe weather across the Willamette Valley on Friday evening. The Storm Prediction Center has put much of the valley at ‘marginal risk’ due to severe weather. ‘Marginal risk’ means there’s a one in five chance of seeing things like damaging winds, large hail or even the threat of tornadoes.

Lightning is also a concern for those caught outdoors on Friday afternoon, evening and late at night. Although the light does not fall into the ‘severe weather’ category, it poses a major threat to security. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, it is necessary to take shelter indoors.
The storm danger is expected to decrease as Friday approaches midnight.
