SHRC registers suo motu case over potholes on roads

State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairman Alexander Thomas has directed civic authorities to repair potholes on Chembumukku Civil Line-Attipetti Nagar Road and SA Road.
In its directive to the Thrikkakara municipal secretary, the commission said that besides repairing the pothole on Chembumukku Civil Line-Attipetti Road, a warning board and reflector should be installed at the site. The city secretary is also required to submit a report to the Commission on the steps taken.
Mr Thomas said the Kochi Corporation secretary should take immediate action to fill the pothole near Kadavanthra metro station on SA Road. Railings should be placed on the field to prevent accidents. If necessary, warning boards should also be installed. The Commission instructed the Company secretary to submit a report on the work done within a week.
The Commission is working on Edappally Canal and St. John on Chembumukku Civil Line-Attipetti Nagar Road. Michael’s Church congregation hall posed a threat to local residents and students of a nearby school.
The cases were registered suo motu by the Commission based on a newspaper report.
