Southport killer is moved from prison to high-security psychiatric hospital: Child murderer is blasted ‘for playing the system’
Southport killer Axel Rudakubana has been transferred to Broadmoor secure hospital, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.
The 19-year-old was transferred from Belmarsh prison to hospital earlier this week after it was determined he could not be managed safely in a prison environment.
However, some have already begun to question whether the child murderer was just ‘gaming the system’.
Responding to the move to Broadmoor, Mark Fairhurst, national president of the POA union, which represents jail, prison and secure psychiatric workers, said his members believed he was “gaming the system” to move to a more comfortable environment.
he said Guard:'[Rudakubana] He is not mentally healthy. He is gaming the system and is nothing but evil. He should spend his entire sentence in solitary confinement, staring at four walls.’
In January 2025, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 52 years for the ‘sadistic’ murders of seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, six-year-old Bebe King and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar.
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: ‘The families of those killed and injured in Southport will forever be at the heart of this country and our thoughts remain with them.
‘The criminal who committed these despicable crimes will rightfully serve his entire 52-year sentence in prison and will probably never be released.
‘High security hospitals are not places of freedom. He will be kept under constant surveillance in a high-security psychiatric unit and will be returned to prison as soon as possible.
‘The transfer of an offender follows a sound and independent clinical assessment.’
Axel Rudakubana was sentenced to life imprisonment and a minimum term of 52 years at Liverpool Crown Court in January last year.
