‘Young girl’ still missing as frantic landslide search goes on | World | News

Mark Tangney was heading to Mount Maunganui for a hike.

He told local media outlet the New Zealand Herald that he rushed to the aid of those trapped in the campsite when the landslide occurred.

He said he heard people screaming and headed towards the toilet block where people were trapped inside.

“I was one of the first people there. There were six or eight other men on the roof of the toilet block with tools trying to lift the roof up because we could hear people shouting ‘help us, help us, get us out of here’,” Tangney said.
