Spencer Pratt tells Bill Maher he would arrest him as LA mayor for smoking pot in front of kids
Spencer Pratt told Bill Maher If elected mayor of Los Angeles, he said he would impose restrictions on smoking and drug use in children, putting parks, schools, day care, public safety and essential city services at the center of his turf as the city’s mayoral race moves toward Tuesday’s primary, he said in an interview published Monday.
Maher asked Pratt: “Club Random” podcast Pratt asked if he cared about all the issues facing the city, and Pratt said his priorities started with safety, lights and potholes before he started smoking around children.
“I care about safety, having the lights on and potholes,” Pratt said. “I don’t want you to smoke in front of children in the park. You know, if you smoke in front of a child sitting on the swings, I will enforce it. I will appoint you as mayor.”

Pratt later expanded the topic to include drug use near children in public spaces.
“There are no more drugs around children in parks, in schools, in front of daycare centers,” Pratt said. “We still need a society of results.”
Pratt said growing up, it wasn’t normal to smoke pot around kids in the park.
“Growing up, I never thought I’d be able to smoke in front of a kid in the park,” Pratt said. “It’s like that now. Mothers don’t want their children around the age of 5.”

During the wide-ranging “Club Random” conversation, Pratt argued that city leaders should prioritize basic quality-of-life issues like public safety, road repairs and neighborhood conditions before moving on to broader policy discussions.
Maher pressed Pratt on whether he would need to know more about issues like solar energy if elected mayor.
“No, Spencer, I have bad news,” Maher said. “If you’re the mayor, you’re going to have to learn more about some of these issues.”
Pratt said he would delegate some issues by focusing first. crime, homelessness and conditions city streets.
“I don’t need to know about solar power,” Pratt said. “I need to focus on making sure mothers are safe and animals aren’t abused. This is my party.”
Pratt said solar policy is not high on his agenda.
“Solar panels. We’re about three years away from having to worry about solar panels,” Pratt said. “We need to take it all naked drug addicts “If I move away from the sidewalks, I might worry about the solar panels.”

As Bill Maher and Spencer Pratt debated California governance, Maher criticized what he described as excessive regulation, while Pratt emphasized crime, homelessness, and family safety as top concerns.
Maher said Pratt’s call was motivated in part by his desire to speak openly about city issues.
“It’s a situation where you’re constantly overthinking everything and over-regulating everything,” Maher said.
Maher also criticized the political imbalance in California, saying one-party rule undermines accountability.
“It’s not a good thing for any government to be run by a single party,” Maher said. “Even if you are a Democrat, you have to understand that this is not good because you need to control the other.”
Maher later warned Pratt that he would face powerful interests if elected.
“Believe me, what you’re going to face is a state full of special interests, all of whom are very, very powerful,” Maher said. “So you can’t do anything in this state without a license or inspection.”

Pratt told Maher that enforcing rules against smoking and drug use in front of children would be a key part of his approach to governing Los Angeles, and argued that families want stronger standards in public spaces.

The California Department of Cannabis Control says marijuana can be used on private property but not in public, and says people can’t smoke marijuana when smoking tobacco is illegal or when children are within 1,000 feet of a school, daycare or youth center.
Pratt’s campaign website described his proposal this way: “not a campaign” but “a mission” He lists crisis leadership and government reform among his priorities.

The nonpartisan Los Angeles mayoral primary will be held Tuesday and voters will choose from Mayor Karen Bass, Spencer Pratt and other candidates in the city’s forest primary system. If a candidate does not win an absolute majority of votes in the first round, the top two candidates, regardless of party affiliation, will participate in a second round of elections later this year.
